Hello all! Just thought I would give you all a small update of what I done over the last week on the '44 ZTU. I removed the valve covers and made sure all valves were loose. Went through the spark plug hole to address the culprit #3 exhaust valve that was hanging open. I believe I was able to get it seated properly with a long punch, lots of lube, and some light tapping. The fuel tank, after the first round of electrolysis, was littered with pin holes. Instead of opting to weld or solder the small holes and grind/file it all - I have had good luck using JB weld in the past, so I went that route. Someday I will look for a clean replacement tank, but at this point we are a week away from closing on our new house (so this should get me by). After doing the JB Weld repairs, I did a second round of electrolysis just to be safe. Tank still isn't perfect inside but I am taking some good precautions to prevent any junk from flowing into the carburetor.

Yesterday I stepped away from packing for an hour and got it all back together. Tank was primed, new fuel line, soldered a screen to the inlet on the sediment bowl stem, new spark plug wires and plugs, an FMJ magneto from Rudy Calin at Rebuiltmags, new air intake hose, carburetor rebuilt.. Today I hope to take a break from packing at some point to dump some fuel in it and see what happens. Lots going on around the house, but taking an hour or so to wrench a little helps me keep my sanity.

Hi Ken thanks for the update I had seen your post about moving so knew you were busy but was wondering about the Z
GB in MN

No problem! I have a video in the works - it is going to be a conglomeration of several days, but it is a video nonetheless. I'll post when I
can. Going to be busy the next several days!

good morning ken, looking good on the u, ken our local rad shop here that I use will spray in a red tank liner on older fuel tanks (kind of a plastic, flows in liguid and hardens to a plastic) they give it a life time guarantee. when I get the tank off the m5 I have in the shop i'll take it in for cleaning and lining.

Ok guys! Well, got it running (pretty well, too)! Sounds like the idle side needs some work with adjustment. Gets real choppy when I idle it down. Also, clutch needs adjustment. Very loosely snaps over-center. Air cleaner needs cleaned out - it is completely plugged... And fuel line needs to be tightened. Got a leak at the carburetor. Other than that - everything seems to be running real strong! Good news for me, I guess. Road gear may need some work, but some of that may be due to old, thick oil.
