I took off and cleaned up the bent up draw bar assembly off the m5 tonight and found the draw bar had been installed upside down  I think I just found the reason for all the bent and cracked brackets  checked in the manuals and yup it's upside down. the 1" pin that go's through the draw bar and up into the housing has a nice S bend in it. looking at all the cracks and bends in the side brackets i'm going to just build new ones, using 1/2" plate using the old brackets for patterns minus the bends and cracks  the top pic is the draw bar the way it came out!

That?s interesting. Makes a fellow wonder if someone did that years
ago as just a mistake, or if they were trying to change the tongue
height or something for a reason.

I wouldn?t have guessed a smaller hp tractor like that would have
been pulling so hard as to have bent such massive pieces as the
drawbar itself and that pin.

You?re going to have that thing fixed up good as new when you get
finished!!

When I was a kid my dad had a U and a Z. He was
forever bending or breaking drawbars.
I have never seen a drawbar bend or break on
today?s tractors except by abuse.

wgm the 2 bends you see are factory bends, but someone installed it upside down?? why I not sure, mabe to lower it down or just a mistake installing it? but installing it upside down I believe is what twisted and cracked the 2 side brackets and put the bend and cracked the curved plate the draw bar slides on. as you can see on the 1" pin it put a nice S bend in the pin not sitting sguare to the pin.

I ended up going to the drawbar used on a tractor with 3 point hitch as it was stronger when mine had the rear parts like yours has it would
flex too much and with the heavy mixer feeder wagon the roller slipped off the arched part and broke the casting up front where the drawbar
anchors it took some creative thinking to make it hold again.

good morning tjv, thank you for the heads up on the roller slipping off the slide bar, I will be keeping an eye on that! my friend Erick and I where looking at the 2 side brackets and can't figure out why mm did not make them wider at the base that bolts up under the tractor, as you can see in the pic the bolt holes are right tight to the edge??? so he's going to be building the 2 new ones about an inch wider and using better steel. I did go out and look at the other m5 I have and there is no sign of bending or cracking on it but the draw bar is installed properly not upside down, which I believe is the cause of all the damage.

It just donned on me that you have the standard drawbar so you also would have the type e hydraulics (meaning no 3 point controls) are you
looking for new rubber handle grips for the hydraulic levers? I hunted along time last year for them and finally found something close its
not quite as thick of a material but looks nice. I had to buy them in a large multi pack and now have some extras I'd be willing to sell you
a couple of them if you need them. I would like $3 each plus a couple dollars for shipping. My email should work if not I'll check back
here. In the pictures the one on the left is the original and the right is what I found,if they are not side by side no one knows the
difference and it still gives the nice finished look to the levers.

when I get a minute tjv I will look on the other m5, the one i'm working on has all the rubbers on the levers, what I am going to need for both tractors is a new steering wheel and center mm cap. on the one in the shop it's cracked up quite bad but still straight, the other one most of the plastic is gone off it and it's bent bad. will let you know about the rubbers. thanks tjv john.
