good evening guys, painted up a front rad panel piece with the paint I had mixed at Sherwinn Williams. took in the side panel by the fuel tank for a match and going by the inside off the panel(where the sun never got to) this is the colour match they came up with for prairie gold. now I need you mm experts to tell me how close we got it?

A m5 should be power or energy yellow depending on the year. I matched the underhood of my g706 and was close to your pictures

morepower according to the colour charts on the mm forum a 1961 m5 is prairie gold, I think the power or energy yellow came in the later 60's? but I will check again. what they used at sw. was one of those spectrum machines that scanned the paint and came up with this match and using the same panel I took into them it looks real close. sherwinn Williams also had minneapolis Moline paint codes in their system (which I think came from the mm forum sites) it looks close to me so I will go with it. not after a gold star restoration award, I just want to get miss minne looking good, all the oil leaks fixed, bent and broken pieces fixed or replaced.

I think the m5 was darker than the newer models like the G706. Everything I found when I was doing my m5 last year said prairie gold 3 was
the correct color. Your color isn't far off maybe a little light but it could change as it cures here is how mine turned out

ok morepower just checked again on the mm paint site and according to their info the 1961 m5 was pg3 or prairie gold 3 older tractors where painted pg1 and pg2 not sure what if any colour difference there was? the rest of the iron work is supposed to be bronze metallic for 61 and then dyna brown 62 and beyond. I will be going with the dyna brown for 2 reasons, #! I like the dyna brown better and I have a b***h of a time spraying metallic with out getting runs in it  and like you said it will all change anyway once we roll the old girl out into the sunlight.

WOW tjv that is an awesome paint job, looks beautifull I see you went with the bronze metallic how hard was that to spray without getting sags and runs in it? I have a hec of a time spraying metallics

M5 should be PG 3 same as GVI. After White bought company they changed paint to energy Yellow, and changed Model M5 to M602 basically same tractor. (and raised the price $400).

(quoted from post at 23:39:46 03/09/18) I work for Sherwin Williams and could have given you the code for it.
thank you kevin, when I went to sw I told them about you guys working with mm collecters and they where able to access the paint codes on line, also took them in the small panel from the fuel tank and they checked it against the codes and it matched up. now looking at the panel that I painted kevin is it close to pg 3? bearing in mind the pic is taken on fresh paint and inside the shop.

Sounds good. I agree on the Dyna Brown also.

I will call sw gb. and see what a gallon is. I bought 4 quart cans, as i'm going to be spraying as I go. if I remember right it was just over a $100. each with the hardner and reducer? but i'll double check and let you know.

The bronze metallic was hard to get even coverage I ended up respraying some of it a couple months later after the original had cured
completely and was much happier with those spots that were poor on the first attempt. If you look close there are a few runs but over all
I'm happy especially considering it was only the 2nd paint job I have done .

tjv if that was just the 2nd. paint job you've done, you've got some serious talent and you took your time to get it right! I find my biggest problem is trying to do too much, all at once  if I just sloooow down take my time, spray on a tach coat, walk away leave it for 10 minutes, come back and spray another coat and don't worry about getting perfect coverage It turns out a lot better! I like the air cleaner intake you installed, I'm going to do the same on my m5. and any metallic I have to spray i'm going to send down to you tjv
