670 Injection Pump

How hard is it to rebuild the Roosa Master on this. Iv got everything narrowed down and since I haven't touched the pump makes me believe it's at fault. Has a slight miss at all rpms more noiticable at WOT. Did get the injectors to seal...turns out Agco sent me the wrong copper gaskets.

thats a job for the professionals ,the pump has to be calibrated and set to spec's after on a test bench. everything must be extemely clean clean also. its not like putting a kit in a carburator.
might want to check the engine timing first, i know those roosa master pumps like to produce a high speed miss.

I did check the timing was really hoping that was the problem but it's right on. I guess I will send it in for a rebuild. It's the last thing to rebuild on it. Should be a good tractor after that's done all it will need now is paint and a for sale sign lol.

If the retainer ring is broken inside like I think it is, that will cause what sounds like a "miss" at most engine speeds. Just removed a JD 5020 pump from the test stand for the same issue..

So when this ring breaks what will it ruin in the pump? I guess as far as cost wise. I don't need this tractor 4 while but would like to get it outta the shop. Iv never been around this style pump so any info on how they work/weak points would be great. Never too late to learn.

Keep running it and after awhile the retainer pins WILL shear off, locking the rotor, seizing the hydraulic head, AND break the drive shaft. Not fun to tell a fellow who brings in a pump like that he should have removed it sooner. Have had to say that a few times in forty plus years of pump repair..

Thats all i needed to hear. Pumps coming off tonight and getting brought in tomorrow no need to add more cost to it. Thanks for the info.

Brought pump in guys there told me had I run it another hour it probably would have locked up. The retainer ring was barely there. Told em since they will be in there to just go ahead an turn it up some. They told me 10% more fuel is all they will go in order to warranty it. My question is how much is too much? I have a feeling 10% will be noiticable but what's the max before it just becomes a problem maker? Will it make it a 80 hp tractor?

Specs show 74 HP at the PTO. I did a 670 pump last summer and set it about 5% over, but never found out from the owner how it did as he never had it on the dyno. Seems it had severe blow by on one cylinder, not sure if it's repaired yet..

80 should be doable with a good motor. Set RPM a little higher too helps. Shooting for 120 out of mine when I get it together. 4 3/4" bore, M&W turbo set. Balancing everything, planning on turning about 2100 RPM.

Only downfall of the 670 diesel, it's not direct injected. Anyone ever built one with the direct injected parts with heads like the 585 had? Might be more than the three main crank can handle though, if a fellow gets really greedy with the fuel..

Talked to a dealer hat tested 585 motors when new with and without the factory turbo. Was little to no difference in power. 585 only motor timed after TDC. Turbo on 504 only gained 12 hp on A4t1400's.

Dieseltech the thought has crossed my mind. Not sure if it would be best to stroke a 336 diesel crank a half inch though to follow suit of a 4 cylinder version of a 585. Could play around with pistons and rods and build one with only 5" of stroke I suppose. Not sure how much engineering would have to go into bolting everything to a 4 cylinder crankcase. 585's are hard enough to keep together the way it is.
