G1000 transmission oil

So unless someone has MM Transmission oil that the book says to use setting around, what do folks use in it now? I've seen several different suggestions on other sites, but I'd like to know what you guys would use. This is in Montana and I'm gonna use it in the winter so I don't know if that makes a difference, but I'm leaning toward 80-90 like everything else I have has. I have it back together and found out the starter problem was simply the solenoid. Trying to warm it up to prime it and get it to fire but it's a challenge since it's been Siberia here for a month now. Plenty sick of winter.

minnemo I am about 6 hours north of you in central alberta and I have my m-5 in for winter work over and I will be putting 80/90 diff oil in the diff and tranny. I won't use synthetics just standard 80/90 as I believe that's what they where designed to use. just imho

just type this (transmission oil g1000) into the search bar above and you will get lots of discussion that several of us had last year about this subject, both pro and con to both oils.

A G1000 is horse of a different color than a M5. Like Doug and Alan said it is a pressure lube system and not a splash system like the M5. Big debate over Universal Trans-Hydraulic, JD 303, or IHC Hy-Tran. Check out previous talk on this forum. If you use 80-90 your in danger of starving the unit of lubrication and in cold weather shearing off the key or shaft in the lube pimp.

thank you MMDEL and Alan, I learned something new today again! so the diff and tranny are lubed through a pumped system rather than splash? why would MM do that?

I'd use JD 303 or HyTrans like stated above it's a pressure system and 80 90 will not be good if used in winter. My brother uses 303 in his G900...been running that stuff for quite a few years now and no problems yet.

Ok, thanks. I will decide on one of the others instead of 80 90. Lord knows I don't need to create more issues for myself. I'm having enough fun trying to prime the diesel pump in this crappy cold, dig snow just to feed the cows, calving, and I work in town.

Most all brands used a pressure system at that time period or soon after. Sending fluid through the input shaft better lubricated the PTO shaft, the trans gears, ampli-torq, ect. And of course there is still a lot of splash going on when working the tractor.

got it, also being a higher hp. machine pulling and moving a lot bigger loads, and the pto turning a lot more weight, it makes sense to boost up the oil flow to bearings and shafts.
