Minni Mo help

Was suggested to place this here also.

Helping an Amish neighbor over haul a Minni Mo stationary engine model # KEF 283 ci. Book we have does not have any tork specs and can not find any thing on line, were these just torked by the size of the bolt? Or if you can lead me in the right direction.
Thanks Jim

I'd highly suggest getting a book. That engine was used on any U model...well very similar to most of em. Some people like the I and T manuals...i don't but the torque specs are the same as what's in the Jensales books. Way too many torque specs to list off plus you will need other info on torquing sequences such as the heads and crank. Someone may be willing to take the time to give you all the specs but books hold so much information and there only 30 to 50 bucks.

They are a fairly easy engine to work on but a guy cannot go wrong by having a book. The information doesn't get old. If you buy a manual go with Jensales, they may even have a specific manual for that power unit. Good luck with it.

This site sells the Jensales manuals. Click on "Tractor Manuals" at the top of the page. About 5 pages into the listings shows a U w/KEF manual.

One thing that I have found out that is not correct in most all of the service manuals is the valve settings.I learned the hard way 50 some yrs ago that they are not set at .08 and .10 as the book says. At that tight setting I burned most of them in two days of hard plowing with my " U ".
Took the head off, reground the valves , put it back together & set the valves at about .11 and .14. Never had burned valves after that. clint

YOUR Twin City engine was used in the earlier " U " tractors. There is a good chance that the rod & main bearings mite be different. The older T C s had babbit bearings , If I rember rite.It has been 55 years sense I was into one of these engines. Hope some one can help you with the brng. thing. clint

Back in the day, pre 1960 we had a neighbor that had a U that would kick any other tractors butt in the neighborhood but had to have a yearly valve job. Wonder if that was the problem ?

The rods are different from a split head to single head. Can't remember what the difference was but I do know they are different...maybe it was where the bearing sat was wider. It's been 10 years since I overhauled my single head UTS
