Old 38 UTS dash

I pulled this picture off a gallery, not mine. I have a 1938 UTS - serial #300 that I'm restoring, mine does not have this type of dash on the rear of the gas tank. It only has the oil pressure gauge bolted to the transmission cover just like my 41 utu does. As far as the temp and amp gauge it had something added off an old Farmall, not original. My gas tank has the two compartments but is flat on the rear. The one in the picture here seems like the dash is slanted but the tank is also, like it is part of the tank. Can anyone tell me if they made a change on those very early models or if I'm just missing something. I put on a switch and gauge box off an old MM combine like the ones used on MM LP tractors before I realized these slant ones existed. Any ideas guys?

On most the rednose series came with no electrics so no reason for dash. Just oil pressure on transmission. As electrics were add or if they came with the dash sleeve was added on back of gas tank. Many were homemade dashes.Have even seen wooden ones. Have dash on most of my rednosed ones. Also have extra dashes.

Ok, I see. Thanks, That makes me feel a little better about the setup that I did install. It's at least a MM box and it really looks pretty good the way I put it on. Trying to keep it pretty original but not every last detail may not be just perfect. I'll keep you in mind if I ever get that far. This one did have a starter and generator but no lights. Still waiting on a really slow guy to finish my gas tank, then re core the radiator I guess will be the only thing holding it up from painting her. Engine is all overhauled and ready to pour oil in and run.

Just checked. 1938 has no dash. 1-39 does, one doesn't and other 39 homemade. One 1940 has other no. 1941 has. If no starter or lights and generator. Lot less work restoring. To bad on distance. Have good rad and decent tank. Your fun is going to begin when finding proper pain. My 39 on steel is at standstill until I find paint. My 38 is # 159. It is need of a good 32 inch tire.

When I got this tractor from a neighbor about 4 or 5 years ago he had two nice 32" tires laying on the hill beside the tractor mounted on old rims welded onto cut cast centers. Those tires I know laid in the sun for 35 years and when we finally got them apart they had virgin rubber tubes inside, tire shop said they were probably $300.00 tubes now a days. We repaired the tractor rims with parts of the 4 and mounted the tires. They were pretty stiff to mount but are made of the OLD GOOD rubber, not perfect but have good tread and hardly any weather checking. My tank should be done pretty soon the guy said but my radiator looks good but they said the core is so brittle that it will be nearly impossible to fix even though the tanks look great.

Here are some pics of mine, if it helps. This is 310091.

For reference viewing, as it appears you have everything you need, attached are some pics that were taken at Penfield a few years ago when they featured MM. The ZT is my '40 ZTU with no electrical and it too has only the oil pressure gauge. The others are not mine.
