Hey Carvel Minne Farmer

Thought id post a couple pictures for you, my Lambordini powered miller welder, and my '45 U. Im the second owner of the U, bought it just outside of Waskatenau about 5 years ago. The welder looks a bit different now, all the propulsion equipment and hydraulics has been removed, and its a much smaller skid unit now i can lift onto the trailer for mobility.

WOW where did you find that miller welder? first one iv'e seen like that, it looks like an internal pipe seam welder do you still have the head and torch for it? a tip for you tom, take the engine covers off that engine when your using it, that air cooled diesel engine will overheat quickly with shrouds or panels on it . I have 2 engines here for it, 2 cyl. lambordini each has a low comp cyl. was going to make one out of the two. they came out of remote controlled wacker packers. wacker built fancy curved panels covering the engine and hydraulic drive unit that looked great but there was no room for air flow, they will run great if you take the covers off and let them breath.

the minne u looks in nice shape tom, newer tires. looks like you've done some work to the fuel tank. did someone add the fender extensions? I'm guessing to keep the mud off you when traveling. what do you use it for mainly tom?

Hey Carvel, sorry for the late response been
up north sledding.
The U doesnt get used for much, has governor
issues that I'm looking into, but it was
used as a puller and for harrowing and other
light duties. When i bought it the tank was
still full of fuel, and it had been sitting
for about 10 years! So had Hunter Rad shop
clean it out, and replace the filler and the
outlet. Got excited so it got installed
before painted.

The welder was used for inside passes on
pipelines, and the side sheilds have been
removed from the engine already.

good morning tom, glad to hear you took the panels off the lambordini, if you ever need another engine or parts I have 2 of those here. the u looks like it would make a great raking tractor with all that ground clearance. I use hunter radiators as well tom for all my fuel tank and radiator rebuilds, took a rad and tank in on thurs. for rebuild, Kelly and the crew there do execellent work, and great people to deal with. I hope the governor issues on the u work out, do you have the manual for it? what is the governor doing or not doing? take care tom and have a great day, we're fogged in here this morning can't see the shop a 100 ft. away!

The most common governor issue is linkage. Make sure it isn't binding. And the length is critical. If need be someone on here can tell you how to check it, I have it written down somewhere.

As others say check linkage especially if manifold has been changed. Make sure rod drops to bottom and throttle plate is closed in idle position. You should be able to throw wide open by hand and linkage has to go back to bottom. Length means nothing if manifold throat not correct. Also rod can be bent and not running true in holes. Looks like a 1947 as has mag and tie-rod on front. One of most common years in Canada as they were required post war. Only thing that ever fails in governor is bushings or get stuck from sitting.
PS Keep sending the nice weather!

Hey Carvel and others....
The governor doesnt respond to anything. I think it siezed after sitting the 10 or so years. I'll pull it off and go through it. Need to look at the brakes, dont seem to do much which is rather scary at 20+mph. Also need to look at the front wheel bearings, i drove it home from the local pull 3 years ago, and the front bearings got pretty hot on the 8 mile trip.
Thanks Carvel, ill let you know if i need any parts for the welder.
Yup that fog was pretty miserable had to go out to Tofield this morning in it. Bad all the way out there.
