I have a late 40s U that i completly overhauled (single head). Crank ground .20tho rods .10 on the mains. New .30 over pistons and a completely overhauled head all new valves. Hydraulics new front tires rears are 70% and the tin is perfect. Only thing it needs is paint. Just want to get a few opinions on it. I'm located near Menomonie WI. And no i will not be insulted on what you guys come up with. Thanks. Also I can't figure out how the hell to get pics on here sorry.

Where I'm at 3-4k but there's only narrow fronts here. A standard tread sells high. If it was a utu here $1500 ish

Do you have the picture out on the internet somewhere? Photobucket or something like that?

You just put the picture address (URL) in the body of the posting or in the Image URL below where you type your post and it should show up - if the address format matches what is expected by either location...

I'd like to see a picture of it or hear and see a video of it running!

If it is the single head & jug "K"
engine: it wouldn't be a late 40s.
Moline went to the "split block "
design in mid 40s on the U. K block
engine tractors not as common, but
not as much in demand either. Except
maybe to a collector. The later
engines yield many more parts
interchangeable options. Having said
that: with the work you have done,
I would say 2500 to 3000 range.
Depending on where you are and
popularity.

KEA KTA) 1930-38, then (KED) 1938 UDLX , KEC,38 to 1941, KEF to 1947. 1948 and up 283 split blocks and distributor.

Motor tag gone? Would be KEF probably. KEC used babbitt bearings but basically same motor.
Around here a decent U standard 500 to 1500$. Every second farm had one! Not sure if they
ever will become collectible. Fall in line of IH 15-30,Massey 44,JD D. Mass produced. But
one of the toughest tractors ever made. Most were retired never worn out. I rate MM UTS as
toughest tractor ever made.

Transmission shift pattern can narrow
year some. Early transmission had 1st
gear back toward the seat and to the
right. Later pattern has 1st in the
middle forward toward the gas tank.
According to the information I have:
transmission change occurred in or
during the 1946 model year.

You will find the change is not limited to any specific year. Tx cover would have to match.
Remember 1946 was post war. Anything that could be patched or created to make a tractor would happen. We had no tractors available here in Canada. Many new companies were formed to fill the demands. Long,Gibson,Inter continental to name a few. Have seen parts of a 40's U that still being sold in 1958.

Going by what is shown in the IT repair manual. It shows a specific serial number for the difference in tooth count on gears. That serial number occurred in mid 46. Different gears is different shift pattern. I have a 44 wartime UTS. Has early pattern. Low gear with 15.5 tires is near 4mph.late shift pattern is barely 3.

Engine can be changed. My 44 has a
403 in it but was sold block
original. I changed it. Have another
fence row U here as well with K
engine and early transmission.
Should have said have not seen an
original tractor with early
transmission and split block engine

Checked on a couple of U's 1944 and 47. Both have same transmission as later ones. 1941 has different transmission cover. Books shows change in 1942.

I agree. I&T manuals provide just enough information to get a guy in trouble. Original MM manuals are readily available.
