LP G-VI Engine problem

I have rebuilt the engine on an LP G-VI. I had the thing running and was feeling good about how things turned out after a long project, when there was a problem. The expansion plug on the one head blew out, which of course allowed a major fluid leak. Now the head where the plug blew out was the one head that I had replaced. This head had been welded, and I'm thinking it is possible the heat from the welding repair perhaps caused a little distortion or loosening of the plug, which contributed to it popping loose. If that is what happened, I should just be able to put a new plug in and be back in business.
However, I am wondering if there could be some other reason for the plug failure. The radiator core in brand new, so it is not plugged. What else could have caused this failure, or is my original speculation the most likely reason?
Any ideas will be appreciated.

I would clean the hole and replace the plug. Before I restarted I would put a pressure tester on the radiator. I would not pump it up just install and start the engine. On the off chance you are getting comp pressure in the coolant passage you will figure it out quickly. If you don't have a pressure problem in the coolant passage go with it. Also I'm assuming you didn't replace the plug when you rebuilt the head?

I usually change all plugs. head and blocks. I always use gasket goo around plug. Keeps
from rotting out bottom of plug. Plug not made of great material like old ones.
