MM model U revival

I might have a chance to get a U running out of two tractors that have been parked and shedded for 14 years. One has rear tires holding air. Body metal/fenders fair at best. Both had atf put in spark plug holes 5 years ago. Assuming that the engine free, this old novice needs some sound advice on where to start. I will not be offended by your elementary remarks. I have had knowledge of these tractors since 1975. Their last chores were running feed wagons on an outdoor hog operation. Hogs gone—tractors laid off. I want to one of the old girls up and running good enough to take on extended tractor rides.

3 years agp I got a ZTN out of a field here locally. Hadn't run in several years, tires were flat, had sat outside. I pulled the plugs and put some oil in the cylinders. Drained the old gas from the tank and carb. Spun the motor with a 12 volt battery. Aired up the tires, which held for 24 hours. Put in fresh gas, installed the plugs and it fired right up. Biggest problem was the starter was full of debris. Had to take it apart and clean/lube it.
Got it home and re-painted the old girl plus changed fluids, set the valves, and fixed a few other things. It's one of my favorites. I have JD's, Farmalls, Olivers, Allis.... the ZTN has the best sound of any. Good luck and let us know how things go.

More than likely with a good tune up and a fuel system flush
both would probably run fine not sure why you think you need to
part one out at this stage. My old u sat in a fence row with
tires flat and the exhaust manifold broken off. Had a tuna can
over the broken stub. A new manifold, carb kit plugs wires
points condenser battery and an oil change. It runs great. If I
were you I'd take gas and a battery file the points and see
what happened good chance they soil both run to some extent.

I will not know if my chance at the U’s will develop until mid Jan. Will try to post photos if the deal goes down. Merry Christmas
