fuel pumps on 6cyl..GBD

Very common with today's fuel making it worse. Many warnings have been issued to make sure to do screwdriver test on all the American Bosch rotary pumps. The plunger seizes in head as it needs to rotate as well as move vertically. When it does not rotate it will twist off shaft. Parts are getting tough to find.
I have a pump that i just removed off a GV1. I checked it first. Also have one that came off a Massey 95.

Attached is couple of pictures showing internals. First is cover to remove to check movement of plunger metering rod connected to governor. When throttle fully open rod should be able to freely pulled to right and it should return to the left by governor spring. Any binding means metering block sicking on plunger. Last picture shows interconnect between components. Plunger is chrome piece with gear on it. Camshaft in pump moves plunger up and dowm in head. Gear rotates plunger like a distributor for injectors. If plunger seizes in head it will twist off little shaft that drives plunger gear. A worn head/plunger will cause poor start. This one is a 8 mm and tip of plungers shows wear. It is actually measured with special tool. I am no expert on these just what i have learned by experiences. Hope it helps.

good morning plowhand and gb., one of the ways I have been combating the poor fuel issue is with 2 cycle oil in my fuel tanks, wether it is gas or diesel. in my 300 liter tidy tank I will put a full litre of 2 cycle skidoo or outboard motor oil, 2cycle oil is built to blend with fuel, it cleans, cools and lubricates. if you think of the old outboards and skidoos they didn't have a crankcase, all they relied on for lubrication was the 50/1 mixture in the fuel so it's pretty good oil. I buy clear diesel and premium gas for my home use and all my equipment and trucks run 2 cycle in the fuel. the regular gas we get if let sit for 3 months or more will turn to a skunky smelling varnish in the tank carbs etc. in a 5 gallon jerry can I will put in a 1/4 cup, a 12 gallon tank 1/2 cup and so on. I have been doing this for over 20 years now and have had no pump or carb issues with my trucks or equipment.

Roosa will stick and usually a good cleaning and a kit will resolve. You can update your GBD to a Roosa but you will need a pump, lines, drive setup and filters. The setup off a GV1 is best as cubes the same. A system off G705, Massey 97 etc will also.

WOuld an AMBAC M100 from an IH tractor be a direct bolt-on replacement to a PSB?
They seem to have the same shape and everything. Parts are easier to get on the M100 pumps.

10 mm compare to 8. MM 425 motor has long stroke and rev out at 1500 rpm with Lanova
injection system.

I know this is an older thread but if I can furnish some useful information, I will.
Parts for Model 100 pumps are readily available & still in production..
I KNOW because I worked at the factory & ran the M-100 line.
PSB, PSJ & PSM parts are NOT readily available & a search is required.
Just about the only thing that is available w/o an exhausting search for those pumps is a rebuild gasket kit..
There ARE rebuild shops that specialize in those pumps in the Midwest, but I have no idea where they're getting their parts.??

Thanks for the answer.
So in your opinion, none of the M100 will push enough fuel per stroke to replace the PSB of the molines? To me if you can fuel an IH1566 with them, it should be plenty of a pump.
If I understand correctly, Hercules 478 motor can be converted from PSJ to Ambac, right? so should be molines?

I am quite interested in this line of thinking. Does a PSB pump turn crank or can speed? What is cracking pressure for a lanova injection system on say a UB diesel? What is required fuel volume for a 283, 336 or a 425 diesel?
