I am having a problem with the governor on my U. I had the gov. rebuilt (Motec Engineering)and put it on the tractor. I did not adjust the gov. properly, cause it was not running at full rpm's. Now I have tried to adjust the gov. to proper running speed and when I start the tractor, and begin to throttle up the rpm's begin to increase be themselves, when I throttle down the rpm's do not decrease. I have backed out the adjustment screw on the gov. and screwed it back in trying to get it right, but no luck. So what am I doing wrong? I think I am following the instructions for adjusting the gov. correctly.

the linkage is not binding anywhere. I don't know if it will make any difference but I am thing of taking the gov. off and re-installing it. I am about out of ideas.

Has manifold been changed? Seen Chinese manifolds with longer neck. Had to shorten rod by 1/2 inch. Rod must fall to bottom and close carb throat to work properly. Governors seldom give any trouble except worn bushings.

Common problem when linkage adjustments are off. Assuming you have original carburetor and throttle linkage : with governor at full throttle and holding carburetor throttle wide open: governor linkage needs to be one half hole long. If carburetor has been changed: be sure distance from throttle rod to linkage hole is no longer than original. Too much distance from throttle plate rod to linkage hole and either it won't idle down or will not fully open

I don't know how many hours are on mine. It has only been out of service for three years before I got it. Mine would hesitate terribly. For example if you were running a brush hog you turned around on the end after the field was opened up the engine would pull own to half throttle before the gov would open up when you put it back under a load. Took all new bushings bearings and I had the housing bored out an tightened up the throttle shaft. Made a new machine out of it.
