good evening all, 2 mm tractors on auction time, coming up for sale, bidding starts nov. 6, one is a rare 61 gvi lp mfwd with 1400 hrs showing looks in nice shape located in pennsylvania, and the other is a rare 64 m602 diesel in really nice shape in Oklahoma, bidding stars on nov. 6 as well.

What's so rare on M602 diesel? GV1 fwa could be added with Elwood front. The later Gv1 had
casting cut for drop box. It also could be added to early models. Have template for cutting
out casting somewhere.

Around here a m602 diesel would be very rare and
would bring good money though I know Overall
production numbers were not that low.

Similar to a U302 gas bareback non super gas west of me listed as very rare 5500$ M602 diesel standards are still around. About 1700 were made in their two years. M5 it's predecessor is basically same tractor was made for 4 years and 2700 or so made. M602 was the new design after White takeover.
Know of a M602 gas standard of which 96 were made. 474 diesel standards were made leaving 1200 universal and row crop models.

I was a little suprized that the M602 had no three point hitch. Would like to have it with that mower.

G.B. one of the complaints I've heard and seen on this and other sites is the fwd models took 40 acres to turn? what was different about the fwa front end that caused that?

Back in 70 we used a Massey 97 fwa for mainly harrowing etc as had bigger ones for
fieldwork. It was very economical and tough to get stuck. Later years we used it on JD 346
baler. It would drive baler very smooth as they ran 580 on pto. Great if you were going in
straight line. It would take an acre to turn on. I sent wife out one day to rake small hay
sloughs with 7 ft NH rake. Still hearing about that one! You cannot rake a round hay slough
with the big beast. You can rake outside but no way on inner circle.

 I would have paid good money to hear the ear full you got when she got back!! for as big a tractor that the m5 is it surprised me on how smooth and nimble it was in the tighter corners and especially doing the last few inside rows. for a tractor with a 7 ft. long hood it can turn with the best of them.

An M5 can be a very nimble tractor. We have a nf gas one here and I have done everything from baling, bushogging, raking, pulling a corn picker, backing in
wagons and even herding cows with one from one time to another.I honestly would not want to get rid of that tractor as long as I have a farm.

nice looking set up superpicker, what kind of manure spreader have you got there? I'm going to be looking for one for my small acreage, who makes a good spreader? a smaller one, something reliable and won't break the bank. and I'm defintley of the same opinion as you on the m5, I just can't get over how smooth it is, the torque it has, and how well it handles.

That is a New Idea 201, 145 bushels. We've had it many years. New Ideas are fairly common around here as we are about 30 miles from Coldwater,OH, where they were made. Actually I have several NI's, have had good luck with them with general good care, and maintenance.
Here is another shot of the M5 at work.

superpicker I'm going to guess the m5 is your go to tractor for the baler, my fiend Harold I got my 2 m5's from said they where the best baling tractor he ever drove. and when I got to baling the second cut with the m5 in front of my j.d. 336 it didn't take long to agree with him! I agree with you 100% on the good care and maintenance super, that is the key to keeping any operation going that involves equipment, weather it's farming, construction or just the family grocery getter.

Ive got a narrow front M5 and one with a wide front. The narrow front is a little more handy to get around with.

alan have you ever had any stability issues with the narrow front?, ie rolling hilly fields like I have here. i have seen here and heard about concerns of stability with nf tractors. I have to see if superpicker wants to trade his nice flat fields for some of my nice rolling hilly fields

Have used the hitch on the front for backing in wagons more times than I remember and you can squeeze narrow fronts in places in the barn where others won't fit. My neighbor has a 970 Case with nf.

just looking at the pic of your m5 hooked to the spreader super and checking out the hitch you have on the front gives me an idea for my m5, fabricate a plate to bolt up to the front weight bar and weld in a short piece of hitch receiver tubing so I can quickly change out hitches for trailers, draw bars for moving equipment around the yard. it seems I learn something every time I come on the forum 8) thank you super. john
