went out to my friends place to pic up the 2nd. m5 today with a tandem tilt deck trailer with a 30ft. deck on it and I was telling wade the driver about having to come back on sat. and pic up the j.d. baler and wade said why not take it now! so we winched the m5 on the deck, drove over to the baler, tilted the deck let the m5 roll back to just in front of the baler, put the baler into transport mode, hooked it up to the m5 and winched them both onto the deck and home!! wade is definetly one smooth tow truck driver we where there less than 30 minutes including airing up the front tractor tires and the baler tires off the air system on his truck! all in all a great day.

(quoted from post at 21:26:48 10/26/17) Nice. Is that a 24T baler? You could have said you went out to bale. Looks like
it could.
yes it's a 24t alan, and Harold said it was baling great when he parked it about 15 or more years ago. after getting it home I unhooked from the m5 rolled it away and then hooked the case 310b to it and pulled it to the front of the shop where I blew out years of poplar leafs, small broken poplar branches and dirt from sitting. got it cleaned up and sprayed it down with fluid film chains, knotters, bale chamber, and auger. tried hand rolling but the plunger seems pretty stiff, will pick up more fluid film tomorrow and spray down plunger chamber and keep working it by hand rolling it. get the grease gun out and grease it. I won't hook up the pto until I get everything rolling easy by hand. give it another fluid film soak and then tarp it all in for the winter.

Had a 24T in real nice condition. Bought at auction sale for 10 dollars. Had been recently
serviced. Would not bale with plastic twine so sold it. Bought IH 430 all twine.

this baler is the same GB. Harold told me to use sisal twine only, it will not bale with plastic twine. for the amount of bales I do it will work fine.

sprayed down the 24t with some more fluid film, started working the flywheel back and forth, got the plunger to start moving, will keep working it until I can turn the baler by hand, got it tarped in for now. continued work on the mm 10ft. disc, straightning the scraper brackets and resetting them close to the disc blades, cut off all the flat iron strapping former owner put on to carry extra weights, cleaned up the gob welding on the frame, and primed. steam cleaned the disc, removed the hydraulic ram and hoses to go to the hydraulic shop. replaced the missing grease nipples and greased.

GB. how do you get these super deals?? a really nice 24t baler serviced and ready to go for $10.00! that's very close to grand theft baler  I should just send you my list of equipment, ih 1100 sickle mower, 10 or 12 ft. cultivator, and let you do the shopping!

My dad was able to use plastic twine in our 224T. Not sure what he did to it
because I havent been able to use plastic in any older baler I have lol.

it would sure be good to know how he did that alan, on the subject of dads alan mine has been gone a long time now and there is hardly a day go's by where I don't think of him or would love to be able to ask him questions on farming and equipment!! one of the sad facts of life is when they go all that knowledge and skill go's with them. that's what makes these forums so valuable, just imagine the knowledge our dads could have contributed to these sites!

I went in to the tire shop today to pic up the left rear tire for the 2nd. m5 that I took in to get the old rotten tire filled with calcium taken off the rim and mount good used tire I picked up with a new tube (dry). was looking at it in my shop tonight when I realized it was mounted up for the right side  so will haul it back to get switched around, oh well mistakes happen and I've made more than my share

Borrowed a 24t from a neighbor, pulled it with my old MD which of course had no LPTO. Good little baler, and that old Farmall had me replacing shear bolts all afternoon. Bet that Minnie can walk through some shear bolts if you aren't real careful.

so far so good x-y switch baled 155 bales in 45 minutes and never broke a shear pin, what did break was the left bale tensioner spring  but looking at it after I finished baling it had a lot of corrosion, so will be putting 2 new ones on come spring. my friend Harold who owned it used that same m5 on it for over 15 years and had very little trouble. I did have to replace shear bolts on my jd. 336 this spring when I was pulling it with my case 310b no live pto and not enough hp.!!
