(quoted from post at 12:29:47 09/01/17) whats a ruff shape but runs, G 706 diesel with fwa worth and how rare would it be. thanks for any help

370 propane and 820 diesels made so ya rare and getting more rare ever year. I've seen them lately from 3k for a basket case to 10 plus in good order. The front axle alone is worth a few bucks. The down side is they do not turn sharp, run a hand clutch and only a few were built with a 3 point so a brute that pulls pretty much with no utility use. Here is a pic of mine:

2-3k on high end. Massey 97 fwa sell better as less were made and they are same tractor. Depends on location.

Yes, something must have happened to the original front end. The serial number and the model on the plate are G706 but the front end is off a Massey 97. I bought it on a auction and should have asked its story.

Here's how it worked. FWD was a flop in late 50's and early 60's. All front ends were
military leftovers Elwood or Coleman. MM tractors left factory equipped with Fwa. Good
idea but no one wanted them. (kinda like UDLX an R cabs) Front components were removed to
create a SALE. Not only happened in 706 but in 504 and 604 and 704/GV1 mess. Have actual
service manuals how to cut casting to make a fwa drop box. Any body could make a MM a
fwa. There is NO way to decipher factory to dealer.

I guess I am not understanding why a factory fwa would have a Massey 97 fwa that is the same thing on it after the fact?

If I understand correct your saying 706's when new were converted to a705 to sell then some stayed or were made back to a 706?

When we ran the assembly line at Lake Street MM ---we ran G705's; G 706's and Massey 97's -both 2 AND 4 WHEEL DRIVES ON THE SAME LIN AS THEY WERE ALL THE SAME TRACTORS EXCEPT FOR COLOR AND FRONT WHEEL ASSIST AND OF COURSE THE FRONT RADIATOR CASTING AND SOMETIME THE HOOK UP IN BACK--some being 3 point as well. They were a great tractor in my opinion.

Out of curiosity how many were produced on a given day or week? Also with the quick phase into the G707 and 708 for a few tractors did you guys know of the G1000 coming or was it a surprise when the line changed.
