Got UB home tonight. Been after this tractor for many years. Not common in Canada. Has a 0700 serial making it a UBE diesel. Not many made.Has been modified with altenator and a solenoid preheater which will be trashed. In deal got orig preheater setup and 12v generator. Also has inline electric pump which will go on A4T1400 and replace with original Bosch transfer pump. Will be running again tomorrow.

Forgot hydraulics conglomeration will be removed. This one has all the options. Hourmeter, live pto, belt pulley etc

Crude setup. There is a kinda pump control on dash that pull diesel from filter setup in
injects into intake. There is a spark plug in same setup and has a normal Mm/delco coil
and another buton on dash to trigger heater. Theory is diesel will only ignite under
pressure. Is installed in intake side connected to breather or intake. All is can do is
warm fuel while sucking your battery down! They were a crappy start on a warm day.

Glad to complete with deal with honesty.

Thanks for the info on the pre heat setup on these as I am a 38 year old collecting what my grandparents had to farm with and learning daily.

awesome find gb, it looks likes nobodys messed with it, all complete, and not all beat and bent. the lights will be on late in g.b. 's shop tonight! 8)

Got it runninng. Runs real well. Hard start. Seems low on compression but needs some more time. Good oil pressure and drives good.

I might have a service bulletin covering the starting aid for the diesels
during that period. I could email you a copy if I find it.

There was another starting aid used on U diesels and GBD. It was an ether bulb that was injected into intake. Have never seen one only in manual.

Are you sure it is low on compression?? I'm not too familiar with the UBE, but my old GVI diesel is pretty hard to start, too - even though it runs fine once it is going.

On my GVI, I think it is the Lanova power cell setup that makes it hard to start, since it runs so good otherwise.

Just for what its worth...

U diesel same as Gv1 minus 2 holes. Had energy cells out and 2 were stuck but no change. It sure is tough start. No smoke at all and runs smooth. Not going to touch motor as yet. Have a spare U diesel bored 60 over.
Done several over years but never had one like this. Usually bad hole or pump, buth this one appears worn out evenly.

That's a pretty neat tractor! How was the reliability of that style MM diesel? Parts availability?

Checked production numbers on UBED. 231 made in 1954 and 131 made in 1955. This one is near the last made. Most parts aren't hard too find. Diesel pump probably most difficult to source parts.

UBED is 17th last made. Probably another one of MM's sales to Canada. Weren't selling so ship to Canada where diesel and wide fronts were saleable. Very few UB's ended up here. Only know of a 4 or 5.
