UB camshaft

How much of a job is it to remove the camshaft from a model UB?
For some reason my governor set up and broke the cam gear drive to
the governor. Or would it be easier to replace the crankcase. Either way does anybody have
some spare parts laying around.

Camshaft has to be removed from front. You will have to remove rad and front cover of motor including crankshaft pulley,waterpump etc. You may have peeled woodruff key on timing gear at front. Might be easy fix rather than whole camshaft.Cam common to most U models,

Also will have to remove heads to get to lifters and remove them to slide cam out. Can be done from bottom with oil pan off but is a real hassle and need several people to do it

Just remove the rockers and push rods. Get 6 straight lengths of wire bend a hook on one end,go down and hook the lifter in the slot on the side of the lifter pull it to the top and bend the wire over the side of the head.

Cam is out. And nothing but a new cam, oil pump, governor, and new rings. would probably make the
tractor run like a new one. Good idea on the use of the wires hold the lifters up.

Glad the wire trick worked. Have tried that and didn't work on the lifters in my engine
