To all you M&M experts out there; I have a M&M tractor in our "tree row" ....been there many decades- bottom side of tires are flat- motor locked up- actually all the tin-hoods- fenders are great shape ; narrow front-end; I don't know what it is but did find the ID Plate on the side that I can barely read- maybe someone can tell me what this tractor is? UTU - 310980 Thanks.

Serial number list I have shows 6 digit serial number format through mid 1948 showing all U series

In mid 48 they changed the serial number format. First 3 digits indicated model series and front end type, next 2 digits were year and last digits were sequence number

In 1950 they dropped the digits representing the year

If serial is correct it is for a UTS not UTU. UTU serial numbers for 1939 start with 310951 and end 31150

Again: there are variations in where you look. I am not home to look in my books so I accessed "tractor data " on line. They show that number as a UTU built in'39.

Peterson book gives production and serials per year. 39 was first year of UTU low on production. UTS from 38-39 are way more common. Get me motor serial and will cross to year. Picture would help!

I guess '39 is close enough; where is the engine serial no? Tryd to get pic but it is under trees and came out too dark. Thanks

Referred to as U. Actual model is UT. Last letter denotes configuration. (Row crop tricycle, single front wheel tricycle, standard: wide front adjustable, etc.... )'39 would have come out with the solid block (often called K block) engine rather than the later "split block " design. The early engine design used in the U series until the mid forties.
