excessive oiling

On my 46 ZTU, the engine oil runs way to fast through the copper tube that supplies oil to the rocker arms and valves in the side of the cylinder blocks. When I restored the engine, I wrapped the holes in the tube with felt and pushed a brad (small nail) through the holes to hold the felt. I have good oil pressure but the oil is running through way to fast, like a small steady stream. The side covers leak a little due to the excessive oil. Shouldn't the oil just drip? Is there a better way to control the oil flow?

Not room for a valve. No way to put a restriction in the copper line that was used on the bigger engines with a pipe to feed the rockers. I would use a larger brad nail. You can pinch off the line but if you pinch it too much, then what.

I agree with MMDEL, use a larger nail. If you can find one that there is a slight resistance when you put it in that will slow the oil flow enough yet leave you a little room to "wiggle" it to get more flow if needed. More than likely they wont all drip at the same rate. If they are working well I believe a drip per second or so is what they usually do.

Thanks for your comments. I will re-wrap my felt strips and try a bigger nail. 1 drip per second is way way slower that what I am currently getting.

If you get it down to 3 or 4 drips per second Im sure that would work also. Most of the older engines are fairly forgiving.
