MM Hydraulic fluid

What is the BEST hydraulic oil I can use for my 1963 MM 602? I can't obtain the factory MM oil here. We have TSC and JD to choose from.

I think most use automatic transmission fluid. I was told that is the closest
thing to the original fluid which was Type 55. I have used that and universal
transdraulic fluid in a couple of tractors.

This topic has been beat to death on this forum, but I would use Dextron 3 ( ATF).
If you are using other cylinders or implements that are running Hy-Tran or Hy-Gard fluids, I would probably use that to prevent mining fluid types.

Our other tractor is a JD 620 running Hygard. Can I simply add this to my existing hydraulic oil (I have no idea what is in it.), or do I need to drain the system, and start fresh? I'm low a quart.

I would change it and start fresh with new Hy-Gard. I agree with Joe Pro about the best fluid to use. All of the open center MM hydraulic systems used Type A automatic trans fluid originally, clear back to the uni-matic systems in the ZA and U. In my U-302 I still use Dexron which replaced Type A years ago. I use Universal Trans-Hydraulic in all of my other tractors so I don't have to worry about mixing fluids when using different remote cylinders. The recommendation on your 2 cylinder JD was originally motor oil. The Hy-Gard fluid you are using in it is just an upgrade and I'm sure it's working fine. Viscosity is similar between auto-trans fluid and Hy-Gard and that's your biggest concern.
