1949 MM UTU Water in oil

My Dad is working on a 1949 MM UTU (per the SN tag, though it has a UTN single front wheel). It is getting water in the oil. I looked through the archives, and was hoping it was the water pump seal, but its not. After removing the hand hole covers on the right side, he sees water dripping down the outside of the number 3 cylinder. We're not familiar with the MM motor, based on the parts diagram, I'm thinking this would be the cylinder block is cracked, or a bad cylinder block gasket?

Molines have a habit of blowing head gaskets. Sometimes between cylinders where it is easy to figure out. Other times the gasket will leak and let water move from water passages to oil return holes. Since you already did the water pump seal : I would pull that head and check the gasket. It can be a cracked head or jug but check the simpler, less expensive items first.

I agree with Fan, but you didn't mention the past history of the engine? If it is a recent overhaul, you might just work it pretty good and retorque the heads good and see if that stops it.

If it is old or original, you probably do have a bad gasket. If the water heats up quickly and/or misses on that cylinder when you first start it, it might be a cracked head...

It could be a cracked cylinder, I guess, but I've never seen one do that. If it wasn't the water pump, head gaskets are your next most likely suspect.

Pulled head to check gasket. Clearly a cracked block. Hard for me to explain and no pictures but it is between an oil gallery and a water passage.

"Cylinder section " are not hard to find for those (provided it is the later model engine and not an old "k "block) not expensive either.
