Neville Starter

Anyone ever work on a Neville starter? It doesn't want to engage and solenoid just clicks. Starter will spin with booster cables. It is on an A4T1400 with D504A motor. Solenoid is different than Delco.

Bendix engages but armature won't spin. Has no continuity between Batt in terminal and out when power applied. It is a Leece- Neville.

Sounds like a bad solenoid. Pull the solenoid off the starter and see if you can disassemble the solenoid. A lot of times you can rotate the terminals (bolts) to get a higher part to connect with the moving disk on the plunger of the solenoid or invert the disk also.

Got starter working properly. These starters are different than Delco. In the middle of the solenoid there is a rod that is adjustable for contacters. If not set correctly the solenoid will not even click. There is 1/4 hole just below where positive cable attachs. Critters got into tiny hole and made a good sized nest. Solenoid would pull but no contact was made to armature. Cleaned out nest and contacts. Reassembled and used 1/4 nut driver to setup throw. Works as it should.

Good to hear that you got it working and that it did not cost a lot of money. Those solenoids can do a lot of things....
