MM tractor drive tractor.

I would like to buy a MM for tractor rides. What you use? I want something under 5500 lbs, and a tractor that is comfortable and will do at least 12 mph. A UDLX would be great but aint gonna happen! I really like the ZB but have never driven one, will it do 12 mph, are they comfortable? Was also thinking a 445 or 4 star.

If I remember correctly, the ZAs were rated at 13.2 mph in 5th gear, Im thinking
the ZBs should be pretty much the same. ZB are nice to drive and sit
comfortably. They used bearings in the steering knuckles on the ZBs which
improved the ease of steering some over the ZAs. The 445s you sit lower and
straddle the transmission, 4 Stars you sit up higher again.

Wife and I ride a double seated Z with 14.9x38 radials on it. It does fine on speed, unless the ride turns into a race, at which point I let em go and try to remember the direction toward town. DP

ZB would be slow. U or UB would be ok. 445 or 4Star with the Ampli-Torq would be ideal. I have a 4 Star and my brothers have 445's and they will run about 16 mph. I recommend a wide front end as it will track better on gravel/dirt roads

I agree with rvirgil. 445 or 4star is the best, will go fast enough and the ampli-torqe is a big plus on a tractor ride.

This ZTS is a good tractor for a tractor drive. purrs along about 15mph.

Well my opinion is if your leading the pack, you can put in high torque and go, but if your in the middle your suppose to maintain a 100 foot, but you dont want to be shifting that torque up and down and coasting in low range. So i quite using my Super MTA.

Yes, torque is good for occasional use on a ride, but not constant. Worse thing on a ride with a Minnie or H or M Farmall is to be in a pace where you are in limbo land.....Can't slow down enough in 5th gear and 4th is either too slow or engine full rev.

I like a speed where I can run high gear, about half to three quarter throttle. That way there is some reserve to slow down or catch up. Key is not racing speed but being able to run a steady pace.

All tractors are not geared the same

I agree Kevin. That size MM is a good ride tractor. Ampi-Torq is handy. especially when the guy ahead is messing around fast and slow. The fellows that don't like it must not have brakes on their tractors.

A ZB would be too slow. The "Rs" would be slow too. If I were to go on a tractor ride, I'd take the UB. It all depends what the leader does. I would like to cruse along
at half throttle and enjoy the scenery, not run wide open. I have never gone a organized ride, just between farms here. Brian

I've never been on a tractor ride before, but I like to think that i would take my UTS. It's a nice cruising tractor, but you do sit down low.

Whatever model you get, get one with the seat above the rear end gearbox, not behind it. We have a UTU that we enjoy very much, but it's
seat is behind the rear end and it is a rough rider compared to our other tractors with their seats up above their rear ends. So if you plan to
"road" it much you'll appreciate my suggestion....trust me....
