What are the differences between a G705/706 and a G1000? I see the G1000 runs 200 rpm higher with a 10-15 hp gain over my G706. Can I have the pump recalibrated to go from the factory 1600 rpm I have to the G1000's 1800 rpm or is there more to it?

To raise the rpm all you need to do is adjust the throttle stop. But, air is the limiting factor on your engine. The later 504s had a better intake and heads to improve airflow. You can gain a few hp just from air
filter and inlet piping work.

The later 504's had different pump also in D504A's.

Any idea why the 3 would have been changed to a 4 in the serial number?

Yes, the later pumps had timing advance. But, with any of the pumps, the engine is not limited by max fuel delivery.
