KTA magnito timing?

A friend of mine has a pretty cool old M&M KTA tractor. The waterpump shaft was worn out and he machined himself a replacement shaft and fixed his waterpump issues....however he must've got the mag timing out of whack upon reassembly.

So just how/what adjusts the mag timing on an ancient KTA tractor?

The friend says it can't be off very much...but he cannot get it to run now(ran before the replacement shaft)

Literally ANY old engine with a mag is timed so the impulse trips AT or just after TDC. Earlier, and (obviously), you risk kickback when starting.

Even if timing marks can't be found, it's typically easy to determine TDC by inserting a plastic drinking straw in the #1 sparkplug hole and slowly cranking the engine 'till it rises to it highest level.

To align the rotor of the mag with the proper plug wire, turn the mag
backwards so the impulse does not get involved.

Timing set by collar on impulse coupler. Adjust to ignite just after TDC on # 1. Loosen
collar and turn to set then lock.
