My girlfriend has a MM 455 gas, It was her Dads, The right hand brake wont work because of oil coming out. Her book doesnt help much, how much trouble is it to replace the seal behind the brake? I just want to get it usable so she can do her hay crop this summer. Thanks in advance

The seal is contained in the inner brake plate. Remove brake assembly, then inner brake plate being careful not to damage gasket or shims behind the plate. May need to drain oil first.

I did them on my 4Star which is the same. I used National seal #417344, old seal was CR 28699. It will help if you can get an I&T and parts manual. If old seal is wider than replacement you can use 2 seals to make up the width.

Same seal is used for the outer axle seal.

Thank you. thats a help, and if shes going to keep the tractor and do hay, I will get a manual, but hoping this is the last I do anything to it

Rvirgil is right.

You might want to replace the brake linings and clean up all the brake parts pretty well, otherwise your brakes will likely tend to stick when you get it back together. I am thinking there is supposed to be a drain hole in the back plate that is supposed to channel any oil that works through the seal away from the brake disks, make sure its open. On the last one I did, I also drilled a 1/4" hole through the bottom of the brake housing so any oil won't pool up in there.
