Hello everyone,

I usually post on the Case forum but am stopping in here for some assistance. I live in Newton, Iowa currently but travel a short drive north to help out at the family farm. I pass an avid Minneapolis-Moline collector on the way up that I am sure many of you know. Well I stopped in today to shoot the breeze with him and show him some MM pictures on my computer since he is not very computer savvy. Anyways, he was wondering about information on the Model 602 that he owns that came from Del Monte. It has 2 torque amplifier transmissions in it and is fairly odd (and slow). I told him that I would put it to the internet (you guys) to help give some more information on this tractor and I could take it back to him. I have attached a picture of the tractor.

I only can tell you what I've been told but there is a guy here that has a 670 that was owned by del Monte. His dad bought it a couple years old. The dealership had to split it and remove the extra torque then send the ta back to del Monte for installation iin the new tractor they had purchased. It was used as a pea picker. I guess they have to go very slow. The 670 is back to factory spec now.

I have a 602 that was owned by Delmont here in the east, it's a diesel and has the factory torque. Mine has about 3 foot axles on it , I cuss it everytime i go through a gate and hook something. Great tractor.

I saw one at Expo 90 at the Roger Mohr farm back in 1990. Interesting looking. As stated and from what I have heard as well, they were made for pea picking, very low speed.

First of all, as I was told by an MM engineer Del Monte was their own MM dealer. Where I lived (northern IL.) they used almost all MM tractors up to the later 60s.

To go slow enough pulling a pea viner in the field, they had to put in another reduction behind the torque. Thus the double torque in many 602s and probably some others
as well.

Yes I live 20 miles from the Main Del-Monte plant that used to be in Rochelle and 20 miles from the plant that still is in Mendota. That is correct the double torque was put in strictly to pull the pea combines. Most times you had to drive a stake on the ground to see if they were moving. I questioned the comment about the tractor being very slow. with both torques in high side or one torque in low side the speeds were the same as any other 602.

Thank you for the information everyone! He should get this 602 buttoned up eventually and out so some of us can see it. I will try to post pictures and a video of it out running when it's done.

connor-you might find linked video of Del Monte pea picking interesting though I'm not certain it shows the specific tractor you are researching. Note searching "Del Monte pea picking" returns several more videos, enjoy!

Someone used to display a restored example just like it at the Amana show. Can't remember who owned it anymore.

I have a 602 carcass with the double torque, I am considering restoring it or selling it to someone who will. (SE Iowa) Make an offer if interested.....(wampum always appreciated)

We have a former Del Monte M5 that supposedly was used on a bean harvester. The only uncommon thing seems to be the 3 point delete option. It has the regular ampli-torque. Normal row crop version, gas, WF, 15.5x38, hydraulics, regular drawbar
