I used to make them out of gasket material and they were as good as the originals. Mind you, the originals oozed some oil too. You might want to put some permatex gasket sealer on them though.

Would the thin gasket cork work or the
thick.... really not sure which use. As i
dont want to use something to thin that the
valve cover makes contact with the tappets
and rocker arms or would they ??

The S-vendor sells them, but their catalog does not say how thick they are. It's been a while since I've had mine off and I don't really remember either.

I had to use a thick material on my R, if the gasket was too thin the rocker arms hit the covers.

Yeah.... what i was thinking myself..... i used the napa brand cork gasket its about as thick as 10 sheets paper. But i did have the thick kind also. But used the thin.... the old gasket i took off the covers was really old and thin. So I guess why i used the thin stuff but i went ahead just order two from Jensales. About 12 a piece.
Here is a picture of the old gasket with the new thin.

I agree with what was mentioned. Sealer is helpful. If you can get good sealer on the covers and stick the gasket to there that helps to keep them in place when you remove them. A small amount of silicone will help seal as well.
