4 Star trans noise

Should a guy here anything from the amplitorque area of the tractor at idle, sounds kind of rough, disappears when the clutch is pushed in. No difference with the torque in hi or lo. More noticeable at idle than when tractor is running off idle. Have not drove the tractor for a couple years, didn't notice it that much until last night, have been ran maybe a half hour lately. The trans shafts were tight when I had it opened up.

Can you look in the adjusting hole and see anything. Maybe something is sticking. This may not pertain to yours exactly but there may be some end play on the main input shaft. I looked at an M5 once that had a noise at idle (kind of between the shifter and under the seat) and when I pulled the clutch lever forward a little it disappeared. That one had been used on a rotary mower and had over half of the pto splines wore off. I think one of my M5s has a noise somewhat like that as well.

Will look through the adjusting hole, might even just pull the tank and steering support and look that way. I rebuilt the pto clutch and the input shaft was good. Ran the pto and nothing changed and can stop the pto when disengaged. thanks
