MM Mail Carrier R

Does anyone know the history of the R Cab mail carrier? It looks to be a universal with an after market/homemade front end.

So was there any production ones? Mercer would have parts to build one. I would hate to do that to mine!

I am thinking MM built at least a prototype example. Photos do exist of it.

It may have been converted from a production R cab tractor, which is basically what it is except for the special front axle and cargo platform fenders. It would be interesting to know if was converted back to a regular tractor and sold or if it was scrapped.

It was probably not very a successful product-too slow unless they changed the gearing. If you get much faster it would be dangerous at road speed. I have seen the black and white picture reprinted in one of the MM magazines, Either the MM Corresponder or the Prairie Gold Rush.

If Rex built this one then there are two in existence. There is a big collector in southern Ill. that built one, he said he used a Case front end which was as close to the factory picture as he could get. We went to his place when there was a show in Evansville, Ind. I can't think of his name.
