We are just about ready to fire up a 2270 that we have been working on mostly last winter. I always like to crank an engine over before the rad or any of the final assembly is done. There is a knock that is quite noticeable when the engine is cranked over with the starter. Tomorrow we will remove the intake and exhaust manifold and pull the front head off. The noise seems to be coming from that area. I am suspicious that some foreign material has somehow ended up on top of the #1 or 2 piston. I will post the findings when we figure it all out.

The problem was the end play adjustment on the camshaft, the cam gear must have been in contact with a bolt head or whatever. We backed the adj screw out a bit and that seemed to do the trick .
