What colors would the NTX have been painted? I going to assume the ones being evaluated by the Army would have been olive drab. The same for any the Marines used. We have seen pictures of the few that Boeing had to move the B-29. Would they have been safety orange or yellow. If the Army Air corps had any, what would they have been painted? Any or all of the above colors, orange, yellow, green or even gray. I believe there was one in the John Wayne movie the Fighting CB's. Did the CB's and the Navy have or use them? If one was found now unrestored, of course Rust.

The NTX that was in the John Wayne movie is owned by Bill Ellis you can see a picture of it in the video on you tube called "NT Recreation"

My observations are that all the sheet metal was painted with gray primer as a base coat. If the chassis were primed/painted, it did not adhere very well because I do not see any paint on mine except over spray from later top coat colors. The top coat colors can be any of those mentioned as well as I have seen red and was told about a white one used in the Philippines. I believe when the finish coat of paint was applied, they followed the practice of only painting the upper surfaces and wheels. Mine has multiple different top colors applied but the undersides of the sheet metal are just gray.

It would be nice to know how they left the factory. I would be surprised if they were costume painted by MM for every unit from the factory. I would think they were painted to suit the needs of whatever unit or facility they were issued to at some point after being accepted by the Navy.

Rapco has great descriptions with dates on what colors were used during which times.
Plus their paint is reasonably priced and matches the original very well. It's what I used to restore several of my military pieces. Mine are from different eras so I've used multiple colors from them. Been very happy.
