I have found an M670 propane, I am seriously thinking of making an offer on. One thing that concerns me is the
model number on the id tag shows it to be a 555, but the sheet metal has 670 on it. Looking a pictures of both
tractors it appears to be a 670. Anybody have any ideas?

Do you have any pictures of it? MM never made a 555. Massey Harris did. This isnt and LP model but does it look like this?

No logic behind that number. 33-5 , 44-5 , Wouldn't next be 55-5? Of course it is MM. Cockshutt had the 550.

Looks like motor numbers especially with the 220 or the second number has 504 in it. Should be no hyphen. Pictures of tags would help.

Yes I know what you mean. However there a some early printed parts books and operators manuals out there that have it printed on the cover as a 550 before the change to 5-star. They called it their Sliver star fleet or powerline series.

The one Alan pictured is obviously a 65 model, pre-Super, with the steering shaft down to the front end.

Long shot here but I think you're looking at an Oliver 1555 tractor. The 1555 serial number ended in -504 on some of those and your serial number is very close to what my book says should be a late Oliver 1555. The numbers you posted are not Moline serial numbers.

no luck posting pictures, I am TC (technology challenged) if some of you will share your email address I will be happy to send you the pictures I have. I am beginning to think that I have found a 555 with M670 sheet metal on it. I can think of no other explanation.

I think you may be right, Seems like I stumbled on to something like this before. I think it is a late model MM just before the change to Oliver.

If serial number is 250877-540 instead of 230877-540 then you might be looking at an MM G550 which is the MM version of an Oliver 1555.
