mm 602 LP have a leak somewhere in the system. LP tank is empty. Need some advice on how to proceed on finding the leak. Should I put some LP in the tank and check possible areas with soap and water or are there better ways. Currently have a 20 lb tank buy passing the tank so I can move tractor around. Have to get local LP vendor to fill tank so don't want to waste any more money than I have to. Thanks for any help.

Most of LP lines on a tractor have a "T" in them with a cap on one side so that one could plumb a line from a companion tank into the system, normally on the input side of the filter. If that's the way you have your 20 plumbed in, just open a valve on your main tank to pressurize it with gas from your 20. Then go about everything with soap and water. Check every valve, inlet and outlet. Bear in mind that the vapor and liquid delivery valves are similar to an old timey water faucet and they may leak a little at the stems in any position other than fully closed or fully open. Otherwise, I have charged an empty tank with my air compressor; that works, too. Let us know what you find.

Gary - I agree with curt on checking everything, fill valve, vapor equalizer valve, around the float ga. etc. the stems on the liq and vapor shut off valves may not leak unless they are at least part way open. You soak everything up with soapy water , you'll find the leaks. I stock anything you may need for replacement parts when you do find the leak or leaks. If the liq. and vapor valves are quite old, when the tank is empty, it may be a good time to replace them. If I can answer any questions or help with parts , my ph. no. is 815 -499-8708 -Dean p.s. love those old Molines.

Hey guys, thanks for replying. Going to follow your advice and should have some results in a day or two. So dang nice, weather, that I need to get a few things done before we get our real Iowa winter! Thanks again.

Just thought I'd add - if you can't hear it (or at least if your hearing is like mine with my poor ol' tractor driver ears) - it may well be on the tank or something external (valve, etc, like was mentioned). But on tractors I've had where the regulator sticks causing it to leak through the engine air intake, etc, I can usually hear a low-rumbling hissing sound and oftentimes tapping it lightly causes it to quit...

You sure want to find it - because once you find a leak like that with the spark off a battery cable or something that ignites it - I can tell you from past experience that is a poor time to have to start figuring out how to repair it! ha
