What is the difference in the 283A engine and a 283B engine? I want to put a U engine into a UB.

Not sure on the exact difference but it should bolt right in without a problem.

I don't know for sure, but On the 206, different letters mean battery/distribuitor ignition or magneto ignition. Is the 'B' in a power unit?

Maybe this is not of much help, but here it goes. I have a U and UB Special, both stock and been here on the farm since new. Out of curiosity I dyno check both a few months ago. U was 44 hp. UB was 52 hp but pto speed was faster than the U by about 75 rpm. May not be correct, but the way it is.
