I have to put new seals in the steering cylinders, this is on a 445 with wide front. A couple of questions, can this be done with radiator still on and must I have to take the front end off.
The cylinders must be leaking bad because there is oil coming all over by steering worm housing.
I did get all the seals from RDF, he is a great fellow.

I put new seals in my M5 steering piston. Just jacked it up and went from there. Everything can be left on Im betting. Make sure you get it installed properly so you have equal steering to the left and to the right. I think an I&T manual covers the procedure. The small paper gaskets were the worst part for me.

You can leave the radiator on. Of course, the hood sides have to come off. One of the bolts on one side or the other is open into the case, you can use it for a drain. I used a floor jack to lower the steering post out of the housing.

Messy job, but not difficult. Remove side and hood panels

Here are some of my notes when I did my 4 Star.

Follow replacement procedure in IT manual

Have oil catch pan ready whenever removing end caps.

Before starting drain excess oil from steering gear case. 9/16 wrench pipe plug on right side (carburetor) under radiator hose. (Oil leakage from piston seals fills up this compartment and oil leaks back out of gear shaft) Have catch pan ready

When reinstalling piston sleeves, first install gasket in recess and then install sleeve

I first left piston out 1 ? ? as book said and turned steering wheel to pull piston in. When checking it was offset. I then redid it with piston out 1? and it was near perfectly centered.
