Gas in diesel

Wrecking a 670 diesel. Just about to pull motor apart. Fellow I got it from said his father had filled it with gas by mistake. Said it ran a long time after but was never the same. Would gas damage pump or injectors? It was drained right away after the mistake. May just damage rings? Will find out tomorrow.

Gas in fuel system won't cause damage when caught early. When it happened to Olds diesels they came around fine with a filter change and bleeding after tank was drained and diesel fuel back in the tank. Pump and injectors will more likely need serviced after setting awhile on the shelf as over time plungers and valves will stick, injector needles will stick too.

I'd be surprised if the pump works after twenty years of not running. I repair a lot of pumps that won't work after setting one year or more. When it comes to pump/injector storage, biodiesel is NOT your friend..

Pulled 670 pump apart and it is a mess and governor ring bad. Pulled apart a M5(10A14849) pump in similar condition and it has no governor ring at all.
