ODD 5 Star

Have a 5 Star diesel with odd serial number. Motor tag is 11401373 which makes it a 1959 model. Serial tag on transmission is 1891079 which appears to be re-stamped. 189 prefix is a M5 modified. Is there any other 189 serial numbered tractors out there?

That is interesting. Can you tell any difference on the rear end from a regular 5 Star? Any pictures?

No external differences except it has inline pump.

It doesn't show any ending numbers for the 189's as well as some others.

Have another 5 Star whjich came from same yard. It has no serial tag but motor tag ends in 1395 making it newer than other one. It also has inline pump. So 5 Stars were still being made well into m5 production. Maybe same old theory. Let's use up old parts and ship them to Canada!

That third digit in the pic sure looks a lot more like an 8 than a 9.

Very strange 5 Star for sure. 189 prefix is for a package #48 of which only 98 were made according to the records. They were all made in late 1960 with 169 prefix engines (336 gas/LP for M5). There appears to be a repair catalog supplement "A" to R-2029 5 Star power package 42 that covers this package #48. Since the tag was obviously hand stamped who knows what it started life as or was used as. I don't have any records on 5 Stars otherwise I'd try to look up the tractor from the engine serial number.
