M5 seat spring

The spring on my M5 seat is too weak. Is there an easy way to make it better?

I have it tightened all the way, and I'm a big guy (300#) so that don't help. The seat is pretty much bottomed out when I sit on it.

On my 4 Star there is a rubber cushion under the opposite end of the spring from the tensioner, see if that is there and/or replace it with a thicker one or a wood piece to add more tension to the spring.

Well I attempted to get that spring rotated out enough to put a wedge in it with no success. That dang thing is tight!

Any suggestions to help make it happen?

I was afraid to unbolt everything and have a spring come shooting out. That was my next move but chickened out. The tensioner was at its lowest setting too and it still seemed to have a ton of pressure on it.

Have you tried a pipe wrench clamped on the side of the spring just above where the
rubber bumper is? You would have to have something to keep it steady and then have
another person put something in the bottom under it. If you try it BE CAREFUL. Wrenches
can fly anywhere. On my M670 Super I thought the adjuster was all the way down but it
wasnt. I had it apart before and used some anti seize on the threads but it collected
enough dirt on the bottom that I couldnt screw it down all the way.

For now I gave up and put a block of wood under it. Might attempt it again when it gets restored, hopefully in the next couple years. Block of wood functions for now.

I think the back framing that houses the spring might be the same as the early M670
Supers. If so maybe you could find one from an early 670 Super, install your M5 seat
frame and cushions and try that. I know my M5 bottoms out a lot quicker than the M670
Super. I dont think the spring is any different but maybe hasnt been used as much to
lessen its tension.
