First off let me say that I'm a Ford tractor owner, currently with 5 Fords, have owned several Harry Fergusons and a few Deere's and some Farmalls too.. This evening at work a coworker asked me if I would be interested in his Dad's old tractor, he didn't know what it was or how much his Dad wanted for it, drove over after work it discovered it was a Minneapolis Moline BF. How it got way down here in South Alabama is a story I would love to hear some day, its the only MM tractor I have ever seen in my 55 years other than magazines or internet, it cranked up immediately , no smoke, 3 point hitch went up and down, couldn't drive it as all 4 tires were flat, will need tires as dry rot is too severe, needs carb rebuild, all sheet metal is good and straight. Any ideas what its worth, I offered $400 and the family said they needed to think about it a few days, they wanted a $1000 for it, I don't need it but would enjoy the task of bringing it back to its former glory, do ya'll think I low balled him?

Forgot to mention it has the adjustable wide front end, paint is original and decals are still legible on the hood, has been barn kept out of the weather, sitting up not running for at least 3 years until today, is on 12 volt system.....

Yep, that's what I'm reading up on now. But even in my area the Avery tractors are rare, I've only seen 3 or 4 in my lifetime, the Ford 9n and 8n's are the most common old workhorses in my area.

It is hard to say, you and the family are only $600 apart. You might have to meet half way. If you are going to bring it to it's former glory, it'll cost $1000 for new tires and tubes. Around here any small tractor that is stuck with rotten tires and rims will bring 3-700. I don't see many of them around here.

If the tractor is as you you say it is, personally I think you did low ball him. I think $800 to 1200. The only thing is the tire situation.

Here's my way of thinking, first off it needs a minimum of $800 dollars worth of tires just to get the old gal rolling, and a battery and carb rebuild, then she's probably only worth $1500 at the very most to someone that wants it, here in Bama she's an ugly duckling so to speak as its the only MM in the area and if I bought it to fix up I would never be able to recover any money invested on her like I could with an old Ford or Ferguson , just my two cents on the $400 offer.

the owner has came down to $750 today, I sent an offer to him via his son for $600 (my final offer) we'll see how this plays out...

Here in central California I paid $500 for a non-running BF Avery. $250 in tires another $300 in engine parts and gaskets. It should not be looked at as a money maker, just something to do and talk about.

A common school of thought these days is that nice looking originals should be kept that way. If the original paint and decals are halfway decent you may want to consider that.
