G-900 power steering

Went to bale the first hay of the season and got about 100 yards along and the power steering quit completely. Belt is on and tight, pump is turning, has fluid in the system. This 900 has the Saginaw style pump. Manhandled it through that bale and unhooked and put my tired M-670 on to keep going. Tried the archives but didn't find much info for trouble shooting. Drove it earlier that day to move it and worked fine. It has been a bit jerky in the past but I blamed old fluid and tired ps pump. Don't have time for much trouble shooting but since there is only the pump and the steering motor it has to be one or the other. Any checks or tests I can try? Haven't tried it since it happened but it didn't show any sign of working again after it happened. Thanks, Bruce.

Its a simple hydraulic system.
A pump, valve and cylinder.

Sounds to me like something broke or sheared off inside the pump. "tee" a pressure gauge in the pressure line running to the steering motor.

Those pumps are available at napa at an expense of about $100.

Thanks Joe - Didn't look to see if there was a port anywhere to check pressure. I'll have to assemble the parts to tee into it as I have a pressure gauge. Going to an auction Saturday to check on a White 2-105. My 900 has an old and very nasty Minntoba cab on it so maybe it is time to upgrade. Thanks again, Bruce.

Alan - From the name I am guessing it was a regional made cab from Minnesota/Manitoba. All the windows open on it, 2 on each side, front and a rear one. Door is on the back. Problem is it has been rattled apart, welded and broken. Typical of the time it is a stand up height cab. Don't have pics here but will get some this weekend. Tractor has lived its life here in west central North Dakota.

We had a G1000 with a Minntoba cab. Noisy, hot and dusty but felt great on a cold windy day in the early spring or late fall. Also has proven to be a boom for the hearing aid industry as we age.
If memory serves me the Minntoba was built in Minnedosa Manitoba Ca.

3 pics of the MinnToba cab. It will probably be coming off at some time as this 900 needs some fixing now.
