MM 335 carb

Started working on my grandfathers 335 today. It ran when we parked it but it never ran great and it was always the carb the coil, points, and timing have all been replaced or checked. It would run ok then all of a sudden start missing but then when the choke was pulled it would get better then miss again. Want to replace the carb it is a tsx650 should I get a rebuilt tsx650 or go with a zenith. I replaced a marvel schebler on my case 310c with a zenith and the results were awesome just wondering if this would be the same. Any ideas?

If it runs great at first and then you have to pull the choke. Better check the fuel supply. Take line off at carb, put a can under to catch gas, and turn gs on. If it runs full flow (size of line) and then slows to any extent. You have a partially plugged fuel filter or something in the tank. A new carb won't help.

I have a 335 and it runs fine with the original carburetor. I would do what MM Del says before I spent any money on a new carburetor. Like he says, pay particular attention to the tank outlet and the screen in the filter bowl. If it was me in your situation, I may even consider taking the fuel tank completely off the engine.
Another suggestion would be to hook your carburetor up to another fuel tank and see if anything changes.
Also, valves that don't seat well can sometimes make an engine real finicky about the fuel mix.
