I just got done with replacing my dist drive shaft and dist gear and I'm have a tough time getting it timed I have the marks lined up on the gears but I can not seem to find the dc 1-4 mark on the flywheel and there is a v notch in the case in the inspection cover is that my time mark and is number one on the back of the motor any help would be great

(quoted from post at 16:03:29 05/15/16) #1 is the front of the motor
so my question is why is it when I rotate the motor and all my gear timing marks line up I get compression in the back cylinder and when I turn it over the 0 mark that lines up with the dist gear lines up with the crank gear I get compression in the front cylinder the cam gear has two marks a 1 and a 0 the crank gear has the 1 and the dist gear has the 0 when these line is that TDC of 1 that's where I'm confused

rotate engine clockwise looking at it from the front. Watch #4 valves when exhaughst valve closes and intake just starts to open that puts #1 cyl on compression and ready to fire. Line up rotor to the # one plug wire and you will be close enough to fire the engine.
