G900 opinions

I bought a g900 at an auction last fall. The sheet metal is about as good as you will find. Decent tires but said it had bad heads. I made sure that the motor wasn't stuck. Was not really that interested but couldn't see it go to scrap. Got a pretty good deal on it but found out later there was no valves, springs, pushrods etc. Just looking for opinions on what to do. Replace or rebuild heads? New motor? I have a 585 that needs rebuilt. Is that an option? Not looking for a puller, just a limited use farming tractor, but u want to have use of the PTO and hydraulics. Thanks

The parts are readily available and easy enough to put it back together. I own two of them. Pretty good old tractors. Could always use another one....

Good tractors. I have two, one a diesel and the other propane. Parts are readily available. I converted my diesel into a 504 when I overhauled it by having the blocks bored to take G1000 standard pistons. Its a really nice running tractor and has a lot of power. You can turn a gas or LP version into a G1000 by using M670 blocks and heads.

I learned to drive on a gas g900. Great power good starting
I would stick with the diesel though cant afford to run her any more lol. 10 gal/hour is a lot of fuel.

Installing the 585 into the 900 chassis is not a terrible job, you'd need a harder to find flywheel. Also "good" 451 diesel heads are not out there and impossible to find. It seems there are a lot more G1000-900 chassis out there then ruining engines. A good running 451 or 504 diesel take out engine will bring more then a complete machine will.

Probably your only option to rebuild the engine you have is to bore your blocks out to 4 5/8" (g1000 standard size) and find some G1000 diesel heads. You can estimate $ 3 to 5 thousand before you pick up a wrench. I think someone could make some good money pouring new MM diesel cylinder heads because that is what sends a lot of these tractor to the resting pasture.
