I have a Mobilift Forklift 1962 with a 220-4 engine sounds like a diesel makes a lot of noise 4 cam lobes are round and 4 are to a point is that normal, how can you get a lifter to follow that profile rods bearings look good what should I look for. I think I should pull
it apart more, it turns over nice cam is out. sounds good
Thanks Dave

It seems to have a lot of lifter noise, valve springs seem to be weak, easy to push down by hand, is there any new valve springs for that engine, this is my first Minneapolis Moline. That might be one of the problems. never seen a cam with that kind of profile, 4 lobes that are more round and 4 lobes that are more to a point looks like that is the way it was made. going to get a borescope and look through hole and see if valves are hitting piston. crank seems to move end to end about .020

Thanks Dave

Camshaft should have normal lobes.Cam is same in 206 motor in all Jetstar series. 220 motor
is just bored out 206. Lot of motor and parts available. Sounds like motor is badly worn.
Just rebuilt a 220 in a U302. It also had too much end play in rear crank thrust. Curious
on year as 330 motor never came out in U302 until 1964.

I pulled all the pistons out and the Rod bearings look real good, cylinder walls are wore more on the side of cylinder wall towards the distributor end, going to bore and put new pistons in. still not sure about cam, I'm going to have a guy look at it tomorrow, I have done a lot of small block Fords and FE's never seen a cam ground like that.

Thanks for all the help Dave

Pull your main caps while you are in there. They all can be changed without split. What is
motor serial #? Also check for concaved lifters.

make sure you check center main really good !!!!,YOU need A cam, sent lifters to berrys cam to get ground

Model 220-4 Serial Number 19301258 I will replace all rod and main bearings, I will try to do it right. Berry Racing Cams Lester Prairie Minnesota, they do great work. I am from Redfield South Dakota. born in 1959

Thanks Dave

I would think serial number that high would be 1965. My record show 220 came out in 1964.
10 thou is too much endplay. Does it have the one piece rear seal or old style?

The Big tag on the Mobilift says 10-19-62 I'm sure it has never been apart motor tag 220-4. I hope new thrust bearings will take up the end play, planting corn right now I will check out main bearings when it rains, cam headed to berry cams Monday

Thanks Dave
