950 injector pump

I had a mechanic remove and rebuild the injector pump on my 950. He installed it but the batterys were low so he could not get it running that day. I now have the batterys charged and have new cables/clamps. Spins over good now. I can not get it started, puts out gray smoke. Might fire a bit on either but never on its own. Could the timing be way off? Is it possible to put that pump on 180 degrees off? I don't know enough about pumps so I will call him and get him out here to get it going.

Yes, it could be 180 degrees out of time, or more or less. Not likely if it was in time when removed, or was it removed without checking the timing first?

"I had a mechanic remove and rebuild the injector pump"

If he really mucked up something that simple, it's probably time to drop the "mechanic" title.

I agree, it could be out of time. I had did mine a few years ago on my G950 per instructions in the manual. I got it installed but had a hunch and wondered if I was off one tooth, which I was. Took it back out and got it in correctly. I hadnt started it or turned it over at all while doing this. If I remember correctly it is on a spiral gear so if it is put in with the pump "in time" it would be off as the gear meshes / turns when you install it. If you can find the timing marks on the flywheel and get them to where they need to be, you can take the small window plate off of the side of the pump and see if the marks line up there. If you were closer I would stop over.

We got it running. It would not fire at all on either, even after removing the air filter and shooting it in the hole. We checked everything again, bled the lines, checked timing . Would not fire, just smoke. So we tried another (old can) of either- it fired right up! I guess I will not buy another can of Harvest King either from Runnings.( it was not old either, bought last winter) I'll stick with Pyrol. I would never have believed that either could be bad, but he has seen it before.
