Have an Avery A with original hydraulic lift on it. Not enough lift to lift a 6ft blade (300-400lbs)hanging off 3pt hitch. No pto. This system was used on newer Avery A and V and some older MM's (BF?). Looking for someone with a solution.

Does the 3Pt function with out any imp. hooked up to it? If it is the later MM hydraulic system as you suggest. It should pick up the blade. It would have an MM hdy cyl mounted on the left under and behind the gas tank. If there are no quick couplers, remove a hose from the cylinder and install a hyd pressure gauge. It should show around a 1000# more or less.If not it is ether the relief valves or the pump at fault. That is a little more complicated. If you do have good pressure, then you might be bypassing fluid in the hyd cyl. A quick way would be to put on another cyl if available.

Is your system pretty much contained in a box on the right side of the engine? cylinder and control valve in one unit?
If so, you have the Avery hydrauilc system and I don't know any way to boost the output. It was only intended to lift the cultivator out of the ground.

There may have been a kit to add MM hydraulics to an Avery A. I have seen MM hydraulics on an Avery R before, (It was restored, may have been a combination of Avery R and MM BF parts) but I think the clutch housing where the MM hydraulic reservoir would mount is different between the model A and R. If there was a kit, may be hard to locate the parts now.

I am not a real fan of add on hydrauilcs, but if you really want this tractor to be able to lift 300-400# that may be the way to go. You may have trouble keeping the front end planted on the ground if you have that much weight hanging off the back anyway.

You are probably right T.R.K. I don't think any of the A s had the MM Hyd. But the late Rs all had MM hyd. When MM bought Avery there were Rs and parts to build Rs in inventory. So those tractors were built with MM Hyd. as this was a very weak item on the Avery R. I have A s, and R and BF s, the R has MM Hyd. as well as the BF s of course.
