MM Jet Star 3 Super- Governor Related Issue

At lower RPM tractor runs steady. When throttling up engine wants to race, RPM goes way to high. Can someone please help?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with a U302. Bought
it sight unseen. Revved so high I thought
it would blow, but short on power. Took the
governor rod off of my other 302 and could
see a big difference. Swapped around the
good one onto the new tractor and it ran
great. The other one was much longer and
bent in a u shape. Cut it down and re
welded and it's running fine. I guess this
don't apply if you've had it for a while
and it just started

From what I have heard on them you need governor work done when that happens. It could be
very costly otherwise. Myself, I wouldnt run it until you find the problem.

Obtain the instructions for proper adjustment of all linkages, eliminate that as a potential problem because if that is not the problem, the fix is quite involved with the governor being inside the crankcase.

As Curt suggests check linkages to see if they are free and haven't been tinkered with. If
no changes have been made it is probably governor itself. Just did a U302 and governor had
exploded. If run and over rev you will end up with a broken rod (usually # 2) and probably
a hole in side cover or block. Have seen several. Had a JS3 that rod let go,spun bearing on
crank, smashed camshaft in 3 pieces and broke skirt of bottom of front block.
As Curt says it is quite a job to change governor. Front end of tractor has to be removed
to get at governor which is behind crankshaft pulley.
