U engine oil filters

Hello to all here in the MM forum!!

I recently bought a non running 1953 UBU LP. I had been wanting a LP to run the farm generator in case of a prolonged outage. It always made me uneasy to have a 40k JD setting on the generator for even a short time, too many chances for something to go wrong.

I stopped at the local NAPA store to get a engine oil filter for it, and they said "no longer available". Well whats the hay with that?

So my question is, what filters are the U owners buying?

Thank you for the help.

I recall having a similar situation with my G LP. I purchased a spin-on oil filter adapter on e-bay, it included a filter.

(quoted from post at 04:44:34 02/24/16) Hello to all here in the MM forum

The first place I would try is Welters in Mo. Their ad in the last MM publication I got I think said they had them Ph # is 417-498-6498 If they aint got em, there are spin on filter adapters available from different sources, put one on my U love it Welcome to the wonderful world of Molines. It'll have ya cussin before ya know it!

I was given a cross reference to some other filter manufacturers:
Baldwin Filter # PT55 or T55M,
Fleetguard # LF543
Luber Finer # LP152
Purolator # T22
Fram # C152

I found this on another forum site'

I work for a county highway department, and Fleet-guard does still make one, because the catalog in the County Maintenance Shop has it listed still.

Found this website.

http://www.autopartoo.com/oem/fram/c152fram.html

I have looked up several of these cross referenced and their catalogs had them under currently available.

Yes i agree just get an adapter for spin on filters and problem solved. I keep all mine original but I also have a pretty good surplus of NOS filters from different companies too. NOT sure I agree with the cussing part though!

Hi the filter is still available from Napa the new part number is 7511 and my local store keeps them and when out can get them usually in a day . Not sure why they didn't want to look it up in the book or do a cross reference on the computer with your old filter number as it would show up .

There are 2 MM quarterly publications: The Prairie Gold Rush and MM Corresponder. Both are informative and published every three months. I subscribe to both and they're offset by one month so they both don't come at the same time.

My U MM puller....The oil filter is $14.16 on ebay..

dfarmann,
You can still purchase oil filters for your U tractor. The WIX/NAPA part number is (5)7511. It is a nylon sock type filter. There are an almost infinite number of companys selling the same filter in a different cardboard box.

There are several operations selling oil filter adapters to use modern filters. I can not speak about what filters they use. I can only describe the ones we make. The filter confusion comes from the different adapters and what the adapter manufacturer made their part for. The #60A32 adapters we make use a dirt common spin on filter used on many modern engines. In North America the NAPA 1791, 1349, 1798, and most 1.125"-16UN thread filters work well. Overseas customers use Mack #21939324, RYCO #Z211, Baldwin #B76, etc. Another point of confusion comes from the engine, or application, the adapter gets used on. The original filter used on your 'U' was used on a dizzying number of things. American-LaFrance, International, Continental, Chicago-Pneumatic, Ingersoll-Rand, Oliver, Waukesha, and dozens of companys used the same filter setup. Recently I started supplying a lot of Oliver people as the Hart-Parr 28-44, 90, and early 99 use your same filter.

Aside from drastically lower cost, and common supply, the new spin on filters do a better job of filtering whatever they are filtering. The old MM #KE5905 and WIX #51111 only filtered down to 30 microns. The new sock filters filter about as good as the socks in your boots. The NAPA #1791XE will filter down to five microns.

Welcome to our sandbox.
Charlie

Is that a new Filter base?

I can't find out a darn thing on this conversion to a more common spin on filter.

Does anyone have a part number I can relay to NAPA for the conversion and filters?

As Charlie Biler above mentioned, he makes and sells the spin on adapters. I have one of them on my R. Have not tried the one for a U. I'd recommend contacting him. He can answer all your questions.

I wanted to mention that WIX is having its semiannual filter sale,

I purchased the new Filter for my UTU Filter # (5)7511 for a tad of $19 and the filter #57208 for the Z and R series of Tractors for a tad over $13.

These were purchased at my local Auto Value Store in Mora, Mn
